If you are looking for tandoori lamb chops near Leicester Square, our Charing Cross restaurant at 19A Charing Cross Road is a minute from the tube. Lamb chops are one of the dishes our tandoor does best: marinated, chargrilled at high heat and brought to the table still sizzling on cast iron.
There are a few ways to order them, depending on whether you want a starter, a main or a mixed platter of grills. Here is how each one works.
How our tandoori lamb chops are made
The tandoor is a clay oven that runs extremely hot, and it is what gives tandoori dishes their charred edges and smoky flavour. Our lamb chops are marinated in yoghurt and spices before they go in. The yoghurt helps the spices cling to the meat and protects it from the fierce heat, so the outside chars while the inside stays juicy.
If you want to know more about how the oven works and what else comes out of it, our piece on the tandoor clay oven covers it in detail, from sizzlers to naan.
Three ways to order lamb chops
Tandoori Lamb Chops, as a starter
On our starters list, Tandoori Lamb Chops are yoghurt-and-spice marinated lamb chops, chargrilled in the tandoor. This is the way to go if you want lamb chops to open the meal before moving on to a curry. They are also a good plate to share between two while you look at the rest of the menu.
Lamb Chop Sizzler, as a main
Our Lamb Chop Sizzler is marinated lamb chops chargrilled in the tandoor with fresh garlic and onions, served on a hot cast iron platter. It arrives at the table sizzling, and the garlic and onions soften and sweeten underneath the chops. Pair it with pilau rice or a naan, and a side dish or a sauce-rich curry for the table.
Tandoori Mixed Grill, for variety
The Tandoori Mixed Grill is a generous selection of tandoori favourites, served sizzling with fresh salad. It is the one to order if you like the idea of the tandoor but cannot pick a single dish, or if two or three of you want a sizzling centrepiece to share.
If you are torn, think about the rest of your meal. Choose the starter if a curry is going to be your main, the sizzler if you want the lamb itself to be the main event, and the Mixed Grill if variety matters most. At a bigger table, ordering a couple of these to share lets everyone try something from the tandoor.
What to eat with lamb chops
Tandoori lamb chops are dry-cooked, with no sauce of their own, so they are best balanced with something saucy and something cooling. A few ideas from our menu:
- A curry for the table: Dall Makhani, with its smoky lentils and creamy finish, sits well alongside grilled meat. So does Saag Paneer or a Bhuna.
- Bread: a Garlic Naan or Butter Naan is ideal for wrapping around pieces of lamb and catching the onions from the sizzler.
- Something cooling: Raita and an Onion Salad or Mixed Salad freshen things up between bites.
- A drink: a cold Cobra or Kingfisher, or a glass of Malbec, which our list describes as rich and fruity with medium tannin levels.
Lamb chops before a show
Our Charing Cross restaurant sits among the West End theatres, with the Palace Theatre, the Prince Edward Theatre and the London Coliseum all a short walk away. Lamb chops are on our main menu, so they are a great choice when you have time for a relaxed meal.
When the clock is tighter, our Pre-Theatre menu is the quicker option. It is served from 12pm to 5.30pm daily, and the tandoor still plays its part: chicken tikka, cooked in the same clay oven, is one of the starters on both the 2 Course Meal and the 3 Course Special Meal. Tell us your curtain time when you book and we will pace the meal to suit.
We are open Monday to Sunday from 12:00 to midnight, so if you would rather have your lamb chops after the curtain comes down, there is time for that too. You can find directions on our Leicester Square page.
