Indian cuisine is one of the most naturally vegan-friendly in the world. Long before plant-based eating had a name, large parts of India were cooking entirely without meat or dairy. If you are vegan, an Indian menu is a good place to be.
Naturally plant-based
Vast swathes of Indian cooking are vegetarian by tradition, and a great deal of it is vegan once you set aside ghee, cream and paneer. Lentils, chickpeas, vegetables and rice do the heavy lifting, seasoned with the same spices as everything else.
What to order
Look to the dals, chana masala, aloo gobi, bhindi and vegetable curries cooked in oil rather than ghee. Many breads are vegan, as are pilau rice and a good number of starters. A kitchen used to the question will happily point you to the right dishes.
Just ask
The simplest advice is to tell your server you are vegan when you order. Most Indian dishes can be adapted - oil for ghee, no cream, no dairy - without losing what makes them good.
Plenty to choose from
You will find a full range of vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes on our menu at both Charing Cross and Soho.
